Eden Pics

Just a quick Eden post.

Yes, it's true.....she has colic. For those of you still trying to decide if you want to join the world of parenthood or not, you might want to stop reading now. For those of you who have been down this road before with one of your children, PLEASE let me know if you have any tricks to MAKE THE CRYING STOP!!!! :) Eden just has a mild case, but man, it is quite challenging to stay sane when you know that most of your nights are going to be rough. She does great in the day-time, but starting at about 9 or 10pm she starts crying. It doesn't last all night, but once she finally calms down enough to actually sleep, it's time to feed her again. She eats every 2 to 2 1/2 hours so by the time she's done eating and has been burped and put in bed, I only have about an hour or so to try and get some sleep myself before starting the process all over again. Like I said, it's challenging, but I'd still do it all over again if given the opportunity...I'd just save my money and hire a night-time nanny!!! :)

Here are some recent pics of her:

She still has a ton of dark hair

I took a few more pics of her the other night, but I'm currently typing with my right hand and feeding her with my left hand, so I'll post those later.
Happy Halloween everyone!!!!

  1. when ruby had cholic i made her a tea out of anis star. just boil one point in water (when done boiling take the point out). and let it cool then mix her formula in the water that you boiled and feed it to her. it will help her tummy feel better. worked wonders on ruby who would cry ALL day and ALL night. If that doesnt work have david call me i have some more tips. good luck

  2. Oy. I feel your pain. Here are a few things that worked for us:

    1. We started Atticus on baby Prilosec which helped immensely. He had some acid reflux AND colic -- so I think this really helped the first problem, but that in turn helped the colic too.

    2. Another thing that worked for me (still does) - the vacuum cleaner. We have the cleanest 8x10 rug you'll ever sit on in the living room (since the rest of the house is hard wood).

    3. We also tried gripe water which has grapefruit and fennel extract. It works similar to the anis star tea mentioned by Beth to calm the stomach.

    4. My last trick was to put Atti in the sling and wander the house for a few minutes until he fell asleep. Granted, he would wake up as soon as we tried to take him out of the sling -- but while he was in there, he was happy and calm. We have the Hotsling pouch, but I'm sure whichever kind you have will work.

I don't know if there's anything similar in DFW - but there's a maternity store here that lets you try out the slings. You pay the full price and get to take a sling home for a week. At the end of the week, if it worked for you, you can go to the store and pick out a new one in your chosen pattern -- or, if you didn't like it, you return the rented sling for full price -$5. That way, you can try a couple different brands to see which works best for you. If a store close to you doesn't offer such a deal, perhaps you could talk them into starting a program!!

Wishing you the best of luck. It is quite exhausting and a bit frustrating, but it does eventually get better.
