One Sick family

We have had a really bad two weeks so I thought I would just post a quick update instead of calling all of you who have been worried about us.

It all started the Monday after Christmas. I felt super nauseous for about three days but I never actually threw up so I just thought it was my birth control making me sick. Then David woke me up at 4am on New Year's Eve because he thought he was about to be sick, but after several hours on the bathroom floor (and no vomit) he was able to move back to the bedroom where he rested for the rest of the weekend. At the same time Ella's nose started running (again) like an open faucet, which quickly led to a fever and a horrible cough. David had just taken her to the doctor a week earlier for the same thing so I just kept giving her the Triaminic that her pediatrician gave us and hoped that it would eventually go away. Unfortunately, Sunday night before David and I were supposed to go back to work, Eden was up all night coughing and Ella sounded like a 90 year old man who had smoked his whole life, so I stayed home from work on Monday and took them both back to the doctor. Eden wasn't too bad so they just told me to give her Children's Benadryl and keep a vaporizer near her, but Ella was given an antibiotic and another medicine to help clear her up. Well, by about Wednesday I started feeling afwul. I had a sore throat, horrible migraine and an extremely runny nose....so I went to my doctor yesterday and got an antibiotic for myself. In the meantime, Eden started getting worse. I didn't really know what to do because I didn't want to be that annoying parent that kept calling the doctor, but last night was the final straw. At about 3am she started wheezing, choking and was practically throwing up her snot. We put her in bed between us and tried to keep her safe until I could call the doctor this morning. They had me bring her in first thing this morning and once they heard her wheezing (and screaming) they swabbed her and tested her for RSV...which of course was positive. They then tested her to see how much oxygen she was getting and luckily her number was above 90 so we didn't have to be admitted to the hospital. They gave her a breathing treatment in the office and then sent me home with an antibiotic and a machine of our very own so that we can give her breathing treatments every 2 to 3 hours for like the next 2 weeks. We've successfully made it through 3 treatments today and although she gets very antsy by the time it's done, it seems to be helping. She didn't have a fever when I took her in this morning, but now she is running about 101 or 102 depending on when I give her Tylenol. I called the nurse one more time (around 4pm today) because I just wanted to make sure that it was OK for her to have fever. She assured me that fever is common with RSV and that the Tylenol should help, but if I think she is getting worse over the weekend we are supposed to call the on-call nurse.

So there you have it. Life is yucky for us right now. Ella is doing much better, as am I, but poor little Eden is really bad. Surprisingly David hasn't gotten it yet, but my poor mother-in-law did and we convinced her to go to the doctor today so hopefully she will be feeling better soon.

Praying that all of you are safe and healthy today.

WASH YOUR HANDS AND STAY AWAY FROM OUR HOUSE FOR AT LEAST THE NEXT 3 DAYS!!!
